Shelving Helps Keep a Laundry Room Organized

Clothes can get strung from one end to the other. The worst part is when other family members mix in the clean clothes with the dirty clothes and you end up having to rewash the whole basket of laundry again. Organizing the laundry room will not only keep it neat, it will also save time.
Hampers are a great way to have a place to put dirty laundry until they are to be washed. Hampers should be placed in each bedroom. This will help each family member from piling dirty clothing in the laundry room. The bathroom is another great place for a hamper. Having a hamper in the bathroom will keep dirty towels from ending up on the bathroom floor or piled all over in the laundry room. One place that many forget about putting a hamper in is in the kitchen. Placing a small hamper in the kitchen is a great place for those dirty dish towels too.
Adding a laundry separator is a great way to keep those colors from getting mixed up with whites. How many times have all of us washed a load of whites only to have them turn out pink from that stray red sock that ended up in the load? Having a laundry separator basket with several bins will also save time on laundry day. Remember to label each part of the bin so each family member knows which section is for each type of clothing or towels.
Placing a table or counter in the laundry room is a great place to have for folding laundry that does not need to be put on a hanger. If there is no room for a counter or table, consider installing an ironing board that attaches to the wall. Not only will there be a space for folding laundry and ironing clothes, it folds back up on the wall using as little space as possible when not in use.
Instead of putting laundry detergent, stain fighters, spray starch and fabric softeners on top of the dryer, one should consider installing shelving or cabinets above the washing machine. Nothing is more frustrating then having to move all of these types of products off of a dryer to access the lint trap that can sometimes be located on the top of a dryer. This will also help to keep laundry chemicals out of reach of small children and pets that could be harmful to them.
Installing a basket system underneath a folding table or counter will help to keep clothes from ending up all over the floor of the laundry room. Label all of the baskets with each member of the household's name. This will give each person a place to put clean laundry and make it easier for him or her to transport the clean laundry back to his or her bedroom.
The key is to install storage systems that utilize the space efficiently. Once the system is installed, one does not have to dread doing laundry again in a cluttered space.
