Interior Decorating Ideas For a Small Living Room

Are you looking for interior decorating ideas to use in a small living room? Small living rooms can look just as attractive as large living rooms. Small living rooms can be unique as well as have a certain character that is sometimes missing in a larger room.

How do you decorate a small living room? I would suggest that you buy a large mirror which becomes the focal point in the room. Mirrors reflect light and add interest to the room.

The next way to decorate a small living room is to change the furniture arrangement. You can move the furniture away from the wall, which is actually recommended for small rooms, or at least slant a couple of pieces of the furniture just to add personality to the room.

Take a look at the accessories that you have in your small living room. If you have too many home décor accessories in a small room, they actually break up the space--so less is better. Look for quality accessories that you just love and want to display. Putting accessories in a grouping rather than scattering them throughout the room will make the room seem less cluttered.

Another way to decorate a small living room and give the illusion of height and space in the room is to use crown molding. Crown molding is a wonderful way to make a room more attractive. The eye goes up to the top of the ceiling and gives the illusion of height. Crown molding can be painted the same color as the décor in the room, or you can use a regular wood grain molding which is wonderful addition to any room.

A way to lighten a small living room and also give the feeling of spaciousness is to add sconce light fixtures, which bounce light off of the ceiling. The light goes up toward the ceiling. It gives a wonderful atmosphere in the room, and since the eye goes upward, the room seems taller and it adds ambiance to the room.

Area rugs add interest and personality to a small living room because of their pattern, texture and color. They also add a sense of depth to the room without taking space away from furniture and accessories.

A very simple way to make a small living room sparkle is to simply wash the windows. Keep them sparkling clean, and make sure that all the shiny surfaces, such as mirrors, television screens and glass top tables are also shined and polished. This simple reminder gives any room in your home a neat, clean look.

Small Living Room Decorating Ideas: Enlarge Your Room With Decorating Techniques That Fool The Eyes

Using these four designer secrets and small living room decorating ideas can make all the difference between feeling cozy or feeling cramped in your space.

When you have only one room where you relax, watch TV, read and entertain it can be quite challenging to decorate to maximize the space and accomplish all these goals.

There's great news for you. When you use these decorating solutions you won't need a lot of space to create a functional and stylish room. The trick is to enlarge your small room by using design techniques that fool the eyes.

#1: Furniture Arrangement

Multipurpose furniture designed to fit the space helps you maximize the limited square footage.

Sleeper sofa sectionals are more practical than a sofa and a bed when your small living room is in a studio apartment. You get a stylish living area by day and a comfortable bedroom at night...all in one room.

Furniture elevated on slender legs and armless sectionals and chairs help make your space feel more open and airy.

#2: Color Ideas

Outfitting your room with furnishings in a color similar to the wall color makes the space feel larger. Adding colorful and textured accessories creates a sense of breadth.

Borrow space from an adjoining room by visually connecting the rooms with similar materials. Using one flooring material or wall color creates flow from room to room and makes your living room feel more spacious.

#3: Lighting Ideas

Use light creatively to make your small room feel more expansive.

Hang colorful curtains on the windows or create wall cutouts into other rooms to draw the eye outside the living room.

Add materials such as mirrors, glass and metals that reflect light to give the illusion of more space.

Make the room appear taller by painting the ceiling a very light shade of blue reminiscent of the sky or paint the ceiling with high gloss paint to give the impression of height.

Add a skylight to create a sense of depth or install recessed lighting to bring more light into the room without taking up a lot of space.

#4: Decorating

Free up floor space and tabletops by using vertical space. Line the walls with shelving and bookcases where you can store ornamental and functional home decor objects.

Stow portable furniture in closets and bring it out when more seating is needed for guests. Dress up the chairs with decorative slipcovers that complement your decorating style.

Just because you may have limited space doesn't mean you must have limited style. Try a few of these designer techniques for decorating with furniture, lighting, color and home accessories to make the space feel larger. Using these small living room decorating ideas will create a big impact in your room.

Home Decorating Idea - Tips on Decorating a Small Kitchen

Even though small kitchens are a challenge to decorate, storage and display areas are of prime importance. Here are a few home decorating ideas for decorating a small kitchen to make it both beautiful and efficient.

Visually increase a small kitchen's size with glass cabinet doors. Paint the insides of the cabinets the same color as the walls for a fashionable, well-designed update. Solid-door cabinets work well below the counter and to the ceiling above the eye-level glass-door cabinets.

Another home decorating idea and variation on kitchen storage is to use open shelves over the sink, the cabinets and as much of the wall space as desired. This is especially useful when you enjoy collectibles but are limited on space to display them.

Repetition of shapes plus a variety of textures such as found in baskets is a home decorating idea that adds appeal to any kitchen regardless of size.

Even a small kitchen can accommodate an island provided the area is at least 12 to 15 feet wide. This will provide additional storage as well as work space and will be convenient from anywhere in the kitchen. A chopping block or moveable carts with open shelving are examples of items that provide extra work areas and storage.

Think creatively of every space in a small kitchen such as adding a pot rack, pegs, hooks, or decorative wall-mounted baskets for additional storage. Also, don't add a lot of non-kitchen décor to the room. If you choose good quality, stylish cookware, utensils and dishes, they will make perfect kitchen decorative items.

Canister sets make great home decorating ideas and are an example of trendy but practical accessories for your kitchen since they can easily become the focus of your kitchen decorating style.
Install new drawer pulls and cabinet door handles for another inexpensive way to update a kitchen.

Since the kitchen is one of the most used rooms in the house, it is important that the design allows for ease and efficiency. By putting the previously mentioned guidelines to work, you will create a beautiful and practical kitchen regardless of size.

The towels can add a pop of color to the bathroom or just blend in with the rest of the decor. Simple Steps To Redesigning Your Home

The idea of overhauling the design of your home completely is one that horrifies some homeowners; the potentially huge costs, the amount of work involved and the state of the home whilst work is ongoing are just three of the potential stumbling blocks. Another, perhaps more overlooked factor, is people's fear of interior design.

Interior design is often seen as a bit of a closed shop, what with various designers being paid millions for their work. This is somewhat of an assumption however; with a bit of basic knowledge, some help from a specialist and interior design software, planning your ideal bedroom, bathroom or kitchen is simple and more importantly, fun.

The first step to good interior design is having a decent idea of what you have to work with, and what you will be using it for. Be realistic about the amount of space you have and use it creatively; as much as you may love a particular set of units, if they're going to overwhelm the room then there is no point in having them.

Consider what you're going to be using your rooms for - the bedroom, for example, will require a bed, storage space for clothing and other items and whatever else you may have (televisions, weights, etc). Kitchens will usually have a cooker, a microwave and a sink as well as other appliances so think about what you're going to need before you go ahead and plan your rooms.

The fun part of interior design is choosing a decorative theme for your home. Bedrooms are particularly great to plan, with potential influences ranging from Edwardian classic style to space-age futuristic designs! Kitchens and bathroom design tends to be more conservative but still, be expressive - you want your home to reflect the personality of the people living in it.

Come up with a few rough ideas and designs for your home - these won't be of a professional standard but at this point it doesn't matter. Measure out your home and draw up some rough floor plans. From there, you can go as wild as you like! Experiment with placement of items, taking measurements into account, until you have a layout you like.

Another good idea is to draw some pictures visualising the design as you see it in your head. Whilst this may sound like a futile task if you aren't particularly artistic, working from a visualisation is far easier than trying to describe a visual task in words.

The final step is to go along to a specialist store or call a designer to work out your design using home design software. This may seem like a bit of a step backwards considering you've done a lot yourself but the benefits of home design software are massive and should help flag up any design issues. Generally this software is expensive and requires training, so working with a specialist is recommended.

Interior design software allows you to create 3D visualisations of your dream designs by placing objects in various positions and playing around with designs and furniture. It actually goes beyond this too, going as far as to show where shadows would be cast and reflections on floors and surfaces. Using interior design software is the only way to truly see what your design would look like in practise before going ahead with it.

After you've finalised the design of your rooms and finished playing around with the software (it can be a lot of fun!), the final step on your path to the perfect home is to get quotes on the redesign and finalise the furniture and items that'll make up your dream design. Happy designing!

Living Room Decorating! Read This Before You Start Out

When it comes to living room decorating there are many styles one can choose from. There are hundreds, if not thousands of options in terms of carpet alone. Maybe you want to go with hardwood, or be adventurous, and try stained concrete. Whatever the case, each element of a living room goes into the overall living room decorating plan that is set in motion when one moves into a home, or renovates his, or her living room.

The best way to implement a living room decorating concept is to research the purpose of the room. The purpose of your living room is for most a place of sanctuary, where one can kick back in the recliner, with a cold beverage, and enjoy a ball game, or movie. For others the living room can be a virtual office, in the days of wireless internet, and laptop computers, living room decorating must consider these things. Whatever the use is for your living room, try locating it before you do any living room decorating, in order to fully adorn the room with functional decorations.

A function decoration is one that serves a purpose beyond accenting a rooms looks. Some living room decorating experts utilize this on a daily basis. In fact, many interior decorators make this the fundamental premise behind all their work. A living room decorating plan that implements at least some functional elements will greatly assist those enjoying the room on a regular basis.

The most common functional elements found when living room decorating is occurring are old wood tables being used as desks, a piece of a sail boat converted into a coffee table, or even a fancy piece of art, that happens to be a clock. These are your common, run of the mill functional design elements. There are plenty of others worth a try as well.

One can utilize all types of materials to make functional design elements. For my living room I wanted an industrial look, so I went with metal as my core material. I was able to have a metal breakfast bar created for less than three thousand dollars. The bar is covered with a custom piece of glass, and adds a modern pop to any living room.

Your challenge is to find what you like to do in a living room, and try to incorporate it into your design. Once you do this, your living room will not only be beautiful, but also functional.

Small Bathroom - Decorating Tips

Small bathrooms have their own challenges when it comes to decorating. The design layout for a small bathroom is the first challenge. Space is limited, so you cannot use it lavishly. Very small bathroom design calls for small furnishings, and few of them.

Small bathrooms demand decorating tips that differ from those for larger rooms. Decorating ideas for a small bathroom need not be limited to miniaturized versions of those for large bathroom, though. Consider the following small bathroom decorating tips.

Small Bathroom Decorating Tips

If you are remodeling a small bathroom, these small bathroom decorating tips will help you make the most of your space. Take time to plan before you begin remodeling or redecorating. Layout and decorating ideas are important and simple plans are needed to make them work well.

1. Floor: Use large, light-colored tile on the floor. White or very light beige or gray floor will give a small bathroom the illusion of space.

2. Walls: Choose light colors for the walls. They need not be white or beige, but dark colors in a small bathroom will make the walls "close in" on you.

3. Sinks: Look for small, wall mounted sinks without vanities. These permit more of your floor to show. More visible floor space makes a small bathroom appear larger.

4. Cabinets: Choose cabinets that can be set into the wall. Cabinet doors or open shelves should be flush with the wall surface. Smooth, unbroken wall surfaces make a small bathroom appear longer and wider. Any cabinet doors should be painted to match the wall color.

5. Mirrors: Hang large mirrors. Mirrors reflect space, and make a small bathroom seem nearly double the size. Consider a large mirror above the sink, and one or more additional mirrors.

6. Bathtub: Your small bathroom may have a bathtub. Replacing it with a clear-glass-door shower stall will free space. Or choose a small, extra deep Japanese style bathtub. This comes in a near-square that frees space beside the tub for your wall sink. The tub is large enough for small children. Older children and adults can use as a soaking tub. Add a shower and curtain for rush times.

7. Accessories: RV suppliers sell great accessories for small bathrooms. Over-the-door towel bars hold multiple towels in a small space. Tissue box holders in clear acrylic mount on the wall, as do toothbrush and tumbler holders. Make a checklist of what is used in the small bathrooms of RV's.

8. Pictures and Plants: One of the most important small bathroom decorating tips is to use pictures and plants. Photos or prints mounted in "floating" clear frames can establish a decorating theme for a small bathroom. Two or three pictures of sandpipers on a beach, for example, can establish the use of sandy beige on the walls. Towels can be sandy beige with a border of marine blue. A shower curtain can carry through the theme. A green plant, live or silk, can be hung in a corner. Use a light-colored basket for an airy look.

Tips for Organizing Bathroom Cabinets

These tips for organizing bathroom cabinets will help keep your small bathroom looking great.

Reduce clutter by reducing container size. Shampoo, lotions, etc. are more economical in large sizes, but do not put them in your cabinet that way. Invest in small travel-sized bottles. Small bottles take less space, and are easier to handle. Fill with lotions and shampoos, and arrange in small bathroom cabinets. Store larger containers elsewhere.

Alternatively, attach a soap-shampoo-conditioner dispenser to the bath/shower wall. This frees the small bathroom cabinet of several items.

Store cotton swabs and cotton balls in small stacking containers with lids. For multiple lipsticks, use a holder - some offer up to 24 compartments.

As noted above, online RV suppliers offer solutions and tips for organizing bathroom cabinets.

Bedroom Decorating Ideas For An Asian Style Bedroom

A lot of homeowners consider home decorating to be quite a challenge, however if you can identify the furniture, accessories and colors to use, you can quite easily create your own Asian decorating bedroom. Here are some bedroom decorating ideas on how you can transform your bedroom to have a charming Asian influence.

If you want your Asian influenced bedroom to be bold then stick to golds and reds for the color scheme. Get paint cards with the colors on them and then you can take the paint cards with you when purchasing accessories and furniture and always get a perfect match.

In the bedroom, you can add unique interest with bedding, vases, picture frames and, of course, your bed, bureaus and night stands. You want to end up with an oriental influenced style with black lacquered furniture. Taking the time to choose the proper accessories and furniture will improve your Asian home decorating style.

Some bedroom decorating ideas for great Asian style accents include folding screens, kimonos and painted lacquer accessories to add appeal, but you also should consider the window treatments as well as the walls and flooring. Window treatments for the Asian decorating style can be bold and colorful or you could simply use bamboo shades. For wonderful wall decor, you could try adding Colorful Asian prints in bamboo, bright red or black lacquer frames or even hang up a silk embroidered Kimono.

Another thing to consider is the correct lighting. Bedrooms need both overhead lights and lights for beside the bed. Look for lighting that is bright with black painted wood or adorned with rice paper shades to augment the Asian decorating style decorating approach.

Another major component that will help give the room designer appeal together is flooring and adding area rugs to your Asian decorating style bedroom can make the room look put together. The perfect type of flooring for the colorful and exotic style is bamboo mats or sculpted rugs which should be neutral or bright colors depending on your style.

You can also add to your décor with style figures such as Geisha girl dolls on black lacquer shelves or simple flower arrangements in unassuming vases or bowls. An indoor water fountain always adds an interesting touch. You could also add an Asian room divider, and Asian figurines in glass domes to make the most of your decorating scheme. On the bed, pile up decorative pillows in rich red and gold silks.

These bedroom decorating ideas for an Asian decorating style bedroom can be easy and fun if you put together a good plan ahead of time. Shop wisely for only the items in your plan and place them accordingly and you'll have the wonderful look of Asian influence in no time!

Bedroom Decorating Designs

Bedroom decorating ideas should replicate a sense of peace and tranquility, allure and charm. Bedrooms should mirror the personality of the bedroom's occupant, creating a haven for retreat where the occupier can unwind and de-stress at the end of the day. There are as many bedroom decorating ideas as there are people's personalities - and that is only to the good. To some people a bedroom that reflects warmth and which creates a sense of rustic charm is essential when planning their personal haven. To others, high-tech is the order of the day. Others - and I include adults here as well - like to express their humorous side, with a bedroom that reflects such a predilection. You may enter a bedroom and be ensconced in a butterfly world or one where flowers abound.

Where the warmth of honey is to be expressed, go for the warmer hues and don't be afraid of mixing unlikely colors. As an example of bedroom decorating ideas that work, a bedroom was recently decorated which had, as its only non-negotiable feature, a bright, cherry-red blind which was a very expensive, made-to-measure blind manufactured to fit only that window. Rather than discard a perfectly good blind, this bedroom was decorated around this feature. A wall directly opposite the window was chosen to be an accent wall, against which the head of the bed would be placed. This wall was painted a deep, rich fuchsia colour - like a very dark plum. The other three walls now needed to provide the light and bring out the warmth of the fuchsia. For these three walls a lilac-pink was chosen which, in itself, was not classed as a true pastel. It was a colour in its own right, a definite shade of pink with a distinct hint of lilac.

As far as bedroom decorating ideas go, these two colors should have clashed, but they didn't - because the lilac-pink reflected sufficient light to liven up the natural light and to pick out the fuchsia pigments in the accent wall. With white paintwork and the white fitments of the built-in cupboards, this provided a deliciously warm room which was both light and sunny. When picking the carpet it would have been easy to come unstuck but, following through the pink-lilac shades, a salmon-pink carpet was laid and fitted into the bedroom. The effect was dramatic and calming, warm and light - with a feeling of warmth as you enter the room, as if the walls were enfolding you.

The cherry-red blinds frame the window beautifully and none of the other shades or colors is in conflict. The effect is stunning - you walk into the room and find you are catching your breath. Meanwhile, in an adjacent bedroom, the bedroom decorating ideas were different and the theme was softer and gentler. As less natural light entered this room mint green was chosen for all four walls, offset by a white ceiling. For the accent wall three long mirrors were purchased which were attached to the wall in the horizontal plane, just to reflect light in that room. The carpet was cream with tiny burgundy roses woven into it. Same house, different bedroom, completely different feel as you walk into this room: the ethos is calming peace. This room is still a work in progress, but the blinds will be a matching mint-green and a large lime green rug is intended to finish the room off. You walk in here and are enfolded in an ambiance of total serenity.

Furnishings for any bedroom will again reflect your personal tastes and can range from rustic French armories to the built in simplicity of white melamine. Again, beds come in all shapes and sizes and can be found in anything from the luxury of king size, pocket-spring divan to the simplicity of a futon which doubles up as a settee when not in use. There are now many metal bed frames to choose from. These range from ultra-modern tubular steel to the traditional brass bedstead of granny's era. However, regardless of the actual bedroom decorating ideas you decide to follow, if the overall ambiance is achieved and you feel comfortable in the finished room, then you have achieved your objective and created a sanctuary to recharge your batteries ready to face another day.

Why Should Someone Choose Designer Rugs?

When people hear about rugs, Persian rugs initially spring to mind. They think about the traditional floral designs in shades of red, brown or maroon. They think about it as decorative rugs that they can be used as centerpieces for their bare living rooms and the likes. But these days, there are already lots of people who know how to make rugs and there are many different modern machines that make weaving a lot easier. Therefore, designer rugs have become more in demand than traditional Persian rugs.

There are different reasons why people choose to buy designer carpets. One reason is that they have more modern designs that are able to blend with more modern home interiors. They have designs that make small spaces look bigger and warm places seem cool. Unlike the traditional Persian rug designs that would usually blend with ancestral homes and rooms that have classic designs, designer rugs are specially made for modern homes and for a specific home design.

Designer carpets are also a lot more colorful than the traditional ones. Rug designers have taken advantage of their privilege to make use of other colors besides brown, maroon, red and other similar shades. They also have various types of designs, unlike more traditional ones that focused primarily on floral designs.

Designers have a wide variety of unique designs to offer to their customers who usually choose whatever blends well with their home interior.

Some homeowners like to give their homes a personal touch so they may ask rug designers to make custom designed rugs for their home. By doing this, homeowners want to make sure that no-one from their neighborhood would have the same rug as theirs. However, custom designer rugs can cost a significant amount of money.

Rug designers do not just take care of the designs, but also the entire package of their products. In order to keep a good reputation, they look to make sure that their designer rugs are carefully made, durable and well thought of. If people are looking for a guarantee that they will be able to get the value of their money with their choice of rugs, then a rug designer has to consider the wider picture to keep their business going against rival manufacturers in that area.

Overall, there are several reasons why some people prefer designer rugs to traditional ones. After all, it is more likely that designer rugs are going to have a more modern look which ultimately might fit better in modern houses. Designer rugs can also perhaps carry a slightly cheaper price than some older products but both may have a hefty price tag. In the end, as long as a designer rug has a good balance between practicality and appearance, then it will be a good purchase for its owner.

How To Have A Western Decor Bedroom If You Love Pastel Colors

Often people who love pastel colors think they have to give up having a western décor bedroom because pastel colors are not popular colors in western decor. Find out how you how you can incorporate beautiful pastel colors into a western decor bedroom.

All light pastel colors provide a striking contrast with black. If you don't like the bold contrast of black with pastels, white can be the perfect companion to these light colors. Most pastels also look wonderful with silver. Consider these three colors, black, white and silver when creating your western décor bedroom. Silver conchos and silver stars are a staple of western themed items and although many times you will see them combined with leather or faux leather in brown, consider these gleaming silver decorations with pastel colors as well.

When deciding on a bed for your western decor bedroom, consider iron headboards and footboards. Many styles of iron beds are reminiscent of the "old west". You will be able to find handsome reproductions in white, silver or black. Choose a simple design without scrollwork. If you like a newer style, you may want to consider an iron rustic profile bed that allows you to select western iron profiles such as stars, horses, boots and longhorns designs incorporated into the design.

Western bedding in pastel colors will be difficult to find so a good choice is solid color pastel bedding preferably in a faux suede or microfiber fabric or a quilt made with the pastel color of your decor. Quilts with a star pattern are particularly nice. If you use a solid color, you can enhance the western look by attaching gleaming silver conchos or silver stars to a tailored bed skirt and adding some upscale western throw pillows. Tapestry throw pillows often have some soft pastel colors in the tapestry and are a wonderful choice. If the throw pillows are solid color you can decorate those with silver conchos as well. Don't go overboard with this as it can quickly go from upscale to tacky!

For a coordinated look use the same bedding fabric for the draperies and valance. If you are using a quilt, you might consider a quilt valance only. The drapery rod should match the silver, white or black of the headboard. No pinch pleated draperies please, stick to valances or rod pocket or tab draperies. If you have added silver conchos or stars to your bedding you can echo a few on the valances or draperies, again keeping in mind that a little goes a long way! You can also add metal drapery tie backs with western profiles ranging from stars with conchos to longhorn steer and even spurs. These are available in silver, black or white finish.

For western wall décor use a large western tapestry wall hanging with a hanging rod in the same color as your bed (silver, white, black). Make sure that the wall hanging contains some of the pastel color of your bedroom so it complements your décor. This is a particularly good choice if you are using the same or similar tapestry throw pillows. You can also drape a matching throw at the end of the bed or on a chair. A large really beautiful western tapestry wall hanging can become the focal point of your room.

If you have black iron for your bed choice you will find large selection of black iron lamps for western décor. You can use a black western profile theme lamp with a shade that matches your pastel color. Or, you can use a pastel lamp, preferably not shiny, with a black shade and add silver conchos to your shade. If you have a silver or white bed frame you may want to choose a pastel lamp, without a shiny finish and add a smooth white shade or smooth pastel shade and add some silver conchos or silver stars. Stay away from pleated shades or you may end up with an outdated look. With an antique reproduction iron bed, a nice choice of lighting is electric oil lamp reproduction with or without a glass shade.

One of the nicest selections for western decor area rugs are braided rugs. The high quality cloth braided rugs will last for years and come in beautiful pastel colors in various shades. These beautiful rugs go wonderfully with iron beds while picking up the pastels of your room.

And last but not least, how can you work in a dresser or bureau with an iron bed and pastel western decor theme? We suggest a plain dresser, bureau and bedside table painted and distressed with the pastel color of your room. Replace the knobs and drawer pulls with western style knobs. There is a wide selection of drawer pulls and knobs with horses, stars, longhorns, silver conchos and bit shanks with German silver. Add a mirror either in black metal with rustic western profiles if you have a black rustic profile bed or you could add a plain mirror painted and distressed to match your dresser.

Fasten antique door knobs to a painted board and hang as a wall decoration to hold western hats, western belts and other cowgirl gear. Finish off your room with some pastel pillar candles. You can wrap these with barbed wire to add a western touch.

Avoiding a Cluttered Living Space by Not Decorating Bedroom Walls

Some contend that the décor of your home reflects your personality. Others, on the contrary, dictate that the home's décor can directly affect your personality. The latter school of thought focuses on simplifying one's lifestyle by eliminating excess baggage in the home, office and, generally, in your life. One method they promote is avoiding cluttered living space by not decorating bedroom walls, or those in other areas of the home that truly need no adornment. Lack of clutter and simplification can lower stress and help you live more focused on the present moment.

Think about it for a minute. No excess clutter on the wall means less to care for and to maintain within the room. The empty space of the wall can become a calming contrast to the necessary business of needed furnishings. Those who follow this plan frequently advocate painting it in neutral or soothing colors to enhance that soothing effect. Open, empty walls can also create the illusion of having more space, of a larger room and enable you to feel less confined and restricted.

The bedroom, in particular, becomes a catch all in most homes. We hang photos and put up shelves to hold mementos of our lives. Unfortunately, those souvenirs and photo frames need to be dusted and cleaned regularly. Eliminating that task frees up time for you to spend doing things that can add value and meaning to your life in the present.

When you make strides toward simplification, such as avoiding a cluttered living space by not decorating bedroom walls, you open yourself to a calmer, less stressful lifestyle. In fact, the empty wall could be just a beginning. As you eliminate unnecessary material possessions, you free yourself to invest more of your time and your finances in essential and vital life functions, like living each day to its fullest.

Decorating Bedrooms - Using a Bed Head Or Headboard to Decorate a Bedroom

One of the most widely used and versatile features of a bedroom is the headboard or bed back of the bed. A bed back is one of the best solutions for decorating bedrooms that you can easily implement with very little cost or effort.

If the bed has a small or not very noticeable headboard the best way to make it a feature of the room is through the use of the wall backing the bed. These 'bed backs' can be used in just so many way to create such a unique and interesting look that you won't see anywhere else.

Here are some really good suggestions to make the bed back something interesting. Start simply with selecting a simple fabric with some interesting patterns or textures. Make sure the feel of the material fit into the theme or coloring of the bedroom especially the bedding and pillows, before you attach it to the wall. All you need to do is attach it via the top; I suggest mounting the top edge on a thin piece of dowel and attaching that to the wall to create a banner like appearance.

Another great way to create an interesting bed back you can use as a focal point when decorating bedrooms is with mirrors. Try applying mirror tiles to the bed back area in interesting patterns or shapes. The use of mirrors like this will increase the appearance e of the room also!

If you have kids or teenagers and you're decorating a bedroom of theirs why not incorporate their favorite bands or pop stars album art or posters into a decoration. An interesting way to do this is by using plywood as a backer and flexi glass (plastic) to mount a selection of record covers or posters into a 'wall mural' of sorts. You can create some really cool designs and use anything inside the 'frame' that they would find interesting.

If you don't have a headboard on the bad at all why not make one by placing a large picture frame behind the bed so that it half sticks up over the end of the bed forming a headboard. This can be used really effectively when you're decorating bedrooms to make the bed a little different and create a subtle focus for the room.
